Why Giving Up Is Not An Option

You may have heard the saying that the end justifies the means, or maybe your favourite quote is, “It is better late than never.” While some of these quotes have been life savers for many in their most difficult times, you can be assured that in life, no one knows it all, so it is not a problem if you fail at your first attempts at trying something.

Did you know that giving up costs more than trying again? It is easier to try again than to give up. Giving up leaves you with regrets, such as uttering statements like, “At least if I have tried again, this wouldn't have happened.” Other times you could be grabbed by sobering thoughts, which you would have avoided if you had tried again.

Because there is nothing new under the sun, you will discover that failing in life is not peculiar to just you, rather it is a common thing among humans. Failing can sometimes clear your insight by making you see what you have done wrong before. This is why we will be sharing some important figures who never gave up, even when everything wasn’t going the way they wanted.

Helen Keller

Helen Keller was born in Tuscumbia, Alabama, USA. At about two years old, she lost sight and hearing following an illness. Keller rose above her physical challenges and was taught by her tutor, Anne Sullivan how objects have names, and gradually she began to use her finger to spell them. Keller later became an author after publishing an autobiography and graduating cum laude from Radcliffe in 1904. Until her death, she was recognised as a very vocal advocate for people with disabilities.

Chinua Achebe

The famous and respected author of Things Fall Apart once had every reason to give up writing. Chinua Achebe is a man whose works are appreciated locally and internationally, he is a man who enjoyed what it takes to be a successful writer.

Born on November 16, 1930, Chinua Achebe was a poet, critic and Nigerian novelist regarded as a dominant figure in African literature.

Before the fame, Achebe’s first novel, Things Fall Apart, was first rejected by several publishers in London, who claimed that books from African writers wouldn’t be patronized. However, the book was later published by Heinemann and since then has sold millions of copies in over 50 countries.
